Slowly but Surely

We’ve been featured in 3 print editions since Jul 2020, it’s time we talk about it :)

Once was a lucky coincidence and twice was still interesting. By the time I was approached for our third feature in Her World (read article here) I realised that what started as a passion project and gradually evolved into a micro-brand, may have a real shot at becoming a real, alternative offering to mainstream fashion at least in Singapore.

I have always understood the powerful yet fleeting nature of media exposure. Exposure is great, but the noise must not overwhelm and change our focus. Slow fashion will always remain a niche concept that takes time and education, because the audience that is interested will necessarily also be a mindful, discerning one.

Remember that Patagonia campaign that said ‘Don’t Buy This Jacket’? That really spoke to me. We are not of scale yet to make such a bold statement, but we believe that staying small (small-batch productions, limited editions, original designs developed from sketch, artisanal pieces) allows us to remain true and connected with our brand values and target audience.

The PORTFOLIO magazine article is one of the more insightful ones that delved beyond the usual ‘sustainable fashion’ line to understand my commercial experiences and internal motivations behind slow fashion. It also recalled a very memorable encounter with Yohji Yamamoto when I was designing for the Chinese art-luxury label 例外 Exception de Mixmind.
